Well, nobody ever starts off being addicted to cigarettes.
It usually starts out with them either following what their friends/family do or they want to look cool and mature.

Passive smoking. I was around a lot of cigarette smoke when I was younger, I had cravings for cigarettes before I ever smoked one. I was already addicted to the nicotine from 16 years of being around the second hand smoke.
