A long standing bug is preventing those particular notifications from working properly. A fix is incoming. The first step was updating the report reasons, which now more closely align to the Code of Conduct. The rest of the fix should be coming soonish, as part of a more general pass on forum admin tools for our moderators that I've been working on lately.

Thanks. I was hoping that we'd see a return in clearer moderation. It's hard to expect people to improve when they don't know when and why they were banned.

Bungie should reconsider a lot of their Ninjas or give them a proper lesson on the given Code of Conduct. Many times they are deleting popular threads that are slightly controversial yet not violating the CoC in any way. Makes no sense to hand out bans to customers because they have an unpopular opinion while not swearing or insulting anyone.

Edited by Achronos: 2/1/2016 6:38:30 PMModerators cannot delete threads, and don't ban users for unpopular opinions or opinions negative of Bungie (just look at the forums to see that). In most cases someone claims this, the post can be found, but it was just buried by many, many other posts because nobody replied to that topics. If a moderator didn't understand the Code of Conduct, they wouldn't be a moderator. That being said - the reason the report reasons changed to better align with the code of conduct wording of rules (and combined with the notification fix discussed in this thread) was to improve transparency about what you get in trouble for and what it was bad. The idea is make it so that if you're going to be mad about a ban, at least you'll have accurate information about what happened.

I think your idea is great to better inform the people of why they are actually being warned and banned. I've personally had a thread deleted where I said we should get rid of t-bagging. No profanity, naming and shaming, attacks...nothing. It was deleted and I was banned by a ninja. Some of them will warn based on reports and no CoC violation. If you don't see it, it's because you are not looking.

Oh, looking isn't the problem. Checking your moderation history, I found the thread you were referring to - you were warned because you were deliberately baiting people and even admitted to doing so in the post itself, referring to people who fell for it as "crybabies" and laughing at "the over 200 people who were butthurt". You weren't banned, though your thread was removed for being disruptive. That situation was not a one-off incident, either - in the subsequent months since then, you've posted such gems like talking about the dating habits of various women streamers, and "Will Crimson Days make us Gay?" among other posts that got you in trouble. So... yeah, I tend to be skeptical every time someone suggests they were banned/warned without reason - 15 years of doing has given me a pretty good range of instinct and experience about how things work here. But, back to the point - hopefully the new notifications will improve communication for you, so you can make better posts in the future and not run afoul of the rules.

I see your point but I still think the moderators are too strict. This is an Internet forum about a video game. I've been playing since the original Halo and making teabagging jokes since then. Making a joke thread is not offensive. I did make a thread called "Will Crimson Doubles Make Us Gay?" If you want to have a laugh read the responses. Even gay people were finding it hilarious. 99% of the responses were positive. I made the thread because DeeJ made his own man love jokes in the weekly update. My jokes are in line with the overall sense of humor around here coming from Bungie itself. As a long time player who has frequented these forums since well before Destiny even existed, I have seen how horrible it has become. Every other post is nerf this or insulting Bungie. Sometimes people like to have a laugh, in my experience.

I like a good joke or troll on occasion too, but you have to know the line. That's why we have warnings, though: we can yank the post and scold you privately without a ban. And it is also why we're dedicating time improving the messaging around bans/warnings so that you can understand the expectations here. You'll be able to make jokes without having to worry about crossing said line because you will have clear communication about it. We understand that our forum has not been the best at communicating those expectations to you, recent and soon coming changes will help with that. In this specific example - misogynistic threads are not cool, joking about something "making you gay" is also not appropriate either. Specifically - making joke threads is not against the rules, unless the contents of your joke violate the code of conduct. The defense of "it is a video game forum, that's stuff should be fine" doesn't fly because this is Bungie's video game forum - we want this place to be inclusive of our entire community, not just the bro gamers age 13-24 who think it is appropriate to use the word "gay" as an insult or treating a woman who plays games as somehow less than they are. Making misogynistic threads and homophobic joke threads are not inclusive. We're not going to tolerate it - and frankly, you shouldn't either.

Edited by Lostypoo: 1/29/2016 9:24:21 PMThat thread statement can be hurtful to some. You may have found it funny but you end up hurting someone's feelings it is then against the code of conduct. Achronos may not play Destiny all that much. But he sure knows how to WREK people in the Forums :-)
-
@AreUokay -- well, that blows. What was the name of the thread? Maybe @Achronos can look it up and see for him/herself?
-
Wow, Achronos! Haven't seen that name in what seems like a decade! Good to know you're still here.
-
Achronos is always here!

Thank you
