Being perfect means you don't have to try or work hard anymore. If something is perfect, you no longer have to improve on it. If people believe that no longer have to improve their lives, they are doomed to some kind of social downfall or something.

That's one way to look at it I suppose though that's not necessarily how I see it. I agree with Voltaires assertion but I don't see that as the reason
