Wait a sec... you don't believe they developed the gun specifically for the sick patient, do you? At the time it was stated the patient received it before anyone else. Short version - the gun was made before anyone knew about the patient.

True... and not taking away from that but... the gun wound up being (for whatever reason) a developmental dead-end. The weird thing is they never removed it from the grimoire. I don't personally care about that, but there are people that make completion part of any game. They're into their medal scores and such, and to them, this IS a big deal.
