Here are two posts , both from myself. Just so you have them, one you don't need at the moment, the other should help.

Delete all the Saved Game information for Destiny if you have not already. Go up on PS3 Menu above the Games. You see Save Data, delete Destiny. This is ok to do anytime with Destiny, as all info is saved on Bungie side.
Use the first link , and make sure you have stable connection for download. Take the PS3 into the room where router is located and hook up with a Network cable if you must. Wired is your best bet, and is faster.
One question, you have not had any other issues with PS3 in last few months? Your hard drive might be failing. They are easy to upgrade, and if you just did a full re format on this system, now would be time to get new drive. Just search internet for information on that. ( looking at $40 to 60 US dollars to get half terabyte drive)
Good luck.

Woozell Really appreciate your help. Still freezes: After I have done all the Downloads I get to Play Destiny Screen This takes me automatically into a "Installing Destiny " Screen, with a "Verifying Content " progress meter underneath. It freezes at 24% every time. PS3 is in good nick, and I am able to play other games no problem The router is 3 feet away, wired connection, fast download and rebooted. One thing I notice is that forum talks about Version 2.0 as latest update. When i Press triangle in Destiny, and Check for Updates, it tells me latest update is installed. When I do the download, and check in Saved Game Data - Information, it tells me Version 1.8 is installed Any further ideas?

Woozell I've checked now and disk is showing 115gb free out of 149

Just a silly question here ... Is your hard drive full and / or how much free space is still left on your hard drive? Everything you are describing sounds like either a full HDD or parked heads that are going to fail soon on a HDD
