As with MIDA and Last Word, I don't think that it is Thorn's fault that it is currently top tier. It's just that Hawkmoon, which would be its main competitor, lost all of its range AND ability to get a two shot headshot on every enemy with some luck. I made a post about how giving Hawkmoon a buff would also give the game some balance, outside of the fact that primaries have no range.

At first I was angry with the hawkmoon nerf as it was my number 2. But I'm settled now with it. The two tap is still very frequent. Giving it back a chunk of range would outcompete scouts and most pulses. I don't treat hand cannons as ranged weapons anymore though. Would immediately make weapons like Judith and first curse redundant. Hand cannons are very balanced now except last word. They really need to do something about its damage falloff when ads at least

  • I don't know, it just feels very underwhelming to me. Just giving it back its 2.0 stats would keep it balanced and make it useful.

Play with it as if it were an auto not a scout a little. A good range example would be the year one level on Mars with B in the middle room and the U around it. Hawkmoons optimum range is now from the middle room doorway to the window on the side of the U. back of that U is starting to push it if you're not accurate. Big problem is last word dominates that range still

  • To me, that's just not mid range. I think that PvE should create the ranges for weapon balance, with larger PvP maps being implemented. Hawkmoon's PvE effectiveness is just not there. PvP is honestly ruining some weapons, if you ask me.

The door to the window in close to mid range the back of the U from the door is true mid range to bungie

  • Map design affects things drastically. People hated the large maps in the beginning but I liked them but bungie has only reintroduced one in rotation. Further limiting diversity. That could easily be mediated by Game type though. No clash just objectives to discourage camping as much and maybe a large team battle in the future. 8v8 or 10v10 maybe

  • Yeah. But, until then, my recently obtained and favorite exotic Hawkmoon will be left in the vault for PvP.

  • Break it out on smaller maps if you notice few last words. Works well even on shotguns. Had a lot of luck with it on the newer Phobos map

  • Too bad Xbox users just LOVE The Last Word. I never expect to see few Last Words. Ever.

  • Try telesto. I'm keeping them back with it then mopping up with the high impact Judith. Shock and awe tactics work well right now. I spray purple everywhere and they seem to forget what the hell they are doing and where they are

  • Oh, I tried Plan C earlier today and it was amazing. Paired it with a scout on Widow's Court. Melted shotgunners and still fusion sniped a few people. I'd imagine that and an Eyasluna would destroy close quarters maps.

  • I've been chasing an explosive round ranged imago loop or that. Hand cannons and scouts are my favorite weapons. Plan c telesto and thesian are pretty good I don't like the wide spread ones at all.

  • Maybe the rate of fire is a bit much for the range, though. A good balancing update to the weapon if it was made a 22 rate of fire and 81 impact hand cannon. That way it would be good, but still balanced.
