Lmao it followed a new hope for two reasons, 1) the film wouldn't suck, and 2) it'd be so great that the next generation would fall in love with Star Wars.

There's no possible way this movie (and latter trilogy) could have been bad if they would have put effort into doing a proper first film. That being said, there was more originality in the prequel movies, and that's pretty horrible.
