Erm... Max level for year 2 is currently 40. Level 25 is nothing. The upgrade is bad not because it's pay to win (because it's not), but because it's pay (half the cost of the game) to cut out maybe a few days of game play and still not have a character able to do any current content. The boost is a good idea because it lets new people catch up faster, the price though is simply daylight robbery.

  • Forgive me for flaming, but you sir are an idiot. Anything that allows anyone to open their wallet to skip a few hours/days of gameplay is ptw plain and simple, you are paying (the pay part) to get ahead without playing (the win part). If you can't see this simple truth then (once again) you sir are an idiot. The fact that it's so expensive simply exacerbates the issue.

I guess we'll just have to partially disagree old boy. If the upgrade allowed the user to miss all of the hard work another person had to put into the game then yes, it would be "pay to win". It would be unfair to the people who ground out those levels and it would make all their hard work meaningless. The upgrade only makes a character 25. The user still has to put the time into levelling the character from level 25 to 40 (currently) and even then the character still will not be useful until it acquires gear of a sufficient light. The upgrade is simply a way of speeding up the levelling process. When the max level (end game) is low, such a mechanic is not needed and would be PtW. When the max level is high, such a mechanic is needed because it allows the user a way of getting to end game content while it is still current. An exp booster would be another mechanic. A good example is the levelling system of World of Warcraft. The original game had a max level of 60 which was a grind to get to (albeit still fun to get through). The current max level is 95 (maybe 100 now?) and if I had to grind my way at the same rate through all 95 levels, I just wouldn't bother. I guess thought it's just a matter of perspective; I'm at end game content and am not really bothered if someone wants to waste some money to skip a few levels. If I was still grinding my way up through the ranks, I would probably be salty. On a separate matter, note how I managed to write five distinct paragraphs explaining my opinion without being insulting. You had to resort to insults in the first sentence. You accuse me of "not being able to see the simple truth"; I think you should try to not be so simple.

  • Wow .. Ok I suppose your correct in that I could have tried not to be insulting in a humourous fashion, I did after all apologise first. However if you think that this is not ptw then you are fooling yourself. Anything that allows one to open their wallet and skip parts of a game, OR gain access to gear that would not be available without opening said wallet is by definition ptw. Wow is no exception, when I left the level cap was 80 (now 100). The thing with it is though that the xp required to level has been drastically reduced, and 1 to 60 was easily done in a few days. And yeah a consumable to hit level cap is bad on so many levels it's not even funny. The player cannot learn to play the class properly if they jump in a max level. Nor do they have gear for the content at their level because they didn't level the character, they bought it. This however is not Wow .. and it's only sliding into ptw early in it's second year, Wows been with us what 10 or 12 now ?? In either case ptw is not going to help them, the intelligent leave, some of us may try to push our gamemaker into a more reasonable path, some will just leave. But the only players that will be left, assuming we can't push hard enough, is the fanboys that are too blind to see when they are getting bent over the desk.

  • yea and TDB($20) only sort of too away Nightfall from those who did not purchase it now if you dont purchase TTK($40) practically everything becomes lock and Destiny becomes an EXTREMELY expensive demo As we have seen with Bungievision it starts out little and ends big so just imagine how this will end paid exotics maybe? my point is it doesn't matter if its a small thing now because later it wont be so small

  •
yea and TDB($20) only sort of too away Nightfall...
Crap... Sorry mate, I pride myself on my ability to parse languages and analyse context (those skills are handy in my line of work), but you lost me around the part shown above. Can you put that into English for me?

  • *sigh* compared to now it is small... trust me I dont see it that way because I was more than slightly pissed when I realized stuff became lock with the TDB But this is a comparison so I was only trying to prove a point so I did not really care for saying just how bad that step was to lock missions every other week if not more
