Cheers for the tip but unfortunately no luck. doesnt happen to any of my other games so i believe it's the disc, sigh. If only Sony weren't so greedy. Looks like i'm gonna have to spend the money on a third copy... 1 for ps3 2 for ps4.

Also could you try moving your console and hardwiring directly in if you're not already? And, if you know someone near by with the same console, try testing your disc there?

I just cleared the cache which had no effect, and it's not the update, it's the actual transferring of the content of the disc to the console. Ive deleted destiny from my hard drive twice already and updated. It's the fact that it gets to 47% content transferred everytime leading me to assume its the disc unfortunately. But i do have a friend i could ask. But that'll have to be another time.

Some updates do that as well, which is why it was suggested to clear the cache. I'd try and get in contact with your friend before you buy the game again. That way it'd be a guarantee it's the disc.
