Why do you care what other people think? If you want to use one, there is no way anybody online will know unless you tell them.
If you go to some sort of in person competition, then maybe it could be an "issue", but I'm sure most people don't care what controller you're using either way.

If equipment is legal, there is no reason not to use it. Don't unnecessarily handicap yourself. If they weren't OK, Microsoft wouldn't be making an official version of them. Get one and see how you do.
