Good vs evil
I'm a bit curious about this inclusion. Are you saying "good vs evil" is a false dichotomy?

Yes. It absolutely is. There's always gray area and it whats good or evil often comes down to perspective. Whats good for the slider is evil to the fly.

Edited by o_____________o: 12/13/2015 3:35:21 AMThat's just another way to say evil doesn't exist, Britton, and that's wrong. And that's exactly how evil works: by getting people to think that there is no such thing, that there is no evil. Or sometimes it likes people to think evil depends on trend, which, again, is another way to say that there is no such thing as evil. Such ideologies must be rejected and fought with truth.
-
And that's your opinion, hence, its subjective.
-
No it isn't. There are actions which are objectively evil. The only thing that changes is culpability. That is not opinion, it is truth.
-
Edited by Britton: 12/13/2015 3:47:21 AMThere are actions universally interpereted as evil.
-
Indeed there are. I'm certain you are familiar with the philosophy of Natural Law. Which, stated very simply, says each of us has a conscience capable of discerning whether something is right or wrong. That does not mean morality is subjective. No, in fact it supports the fact that there is a specific moral code to be followed.
-
It supports that our morality is a result of human nature. Outside of our own human nature good and evil do not exist. Good and evil is a human construct.
-
Good and evil do not exist outside of human nature because we are the only ones capable of free will, Britton. It is not a human construct, it is a code written into our spirit by God. But I already know your beliefs regarding religion and the belief in a higher power, so I won't try to convince you otherwise. Britton, you are obviously a very smart individual. Well studied, well read, well educated. So I don't believe that you don't see the error in your philosophy. But you won't admit it and I won't try to get you to admit it. No, the point of this exchange is to sow doubt in those who begin to believe your philosophy.
-
Edited by Britton: 12/13/2015 4:20:36 AMIt's a good topic of discussion. I also know your position on religion, so we will only reach impasse. I have no issue with encouraging people to question things.

This conversation makes me acually want to understand (or read all the way through) the original post. Crap.
