You can trade the extras you get, and thus each card at least has some value. You can trade unwanted duplicates for what you don't have with others, or even sell it if it's rare enough.

Sure , if you look at it like that , yeah. Some of them might be litteraly worthless tough ... what about them?

The option to trade and sell is still there. Plus each sticker has an actual monetary value. I think 0.00001 or something. With no trading in destiny you can't. It's a pretty grey area though no matter which way you cut it.
