And so on and so forth. His battle was a shared battle, he never hid it and he bolstered the strength of an untold amount of people going through a lot with his music.
The man had his demons but what he contributed to the Grunge industry was irreplaceable. He helped usher in an era of music that helped a lot of us get through tough times even if he was going through them himself. He left a musical legacy that will be hard to replicate. So yeah he is "great". No human is perfect, nor will any human ever be.
