I'm pretty sure the exo stranger is the spirit of the traveler... She dosnt carry a ghost and can move around as if she is one.. She also vanished in the last cut scene of the original game with the particles leading towards the traveler.. But that's just my theory

Future war cult reassembled a machine that only exo could utilize without being driven insane. It didn't transport you across timelines, it simply allowed you to view alternate timelines. Most saw destruction and death and were driven crazy because of it
