What if...

What if instead of titans, warlocks, and hunters having 3 subclasses specific to them, any class could choose an element to train in, and choose any abilities from that element? For example, you could start the game as a titan, choose to train in solar, then unlock firefly grenades, triple jump, Sunsinger for super, do on and so forth. I feel that leveling in this way things could have been more dynamic, and much more versatile, instead of seeing a character and knowing exactly (within the parameters of that class) what their capabilities were, there would be many more things that could happen, you'd never know when someone might use FoH, nova bomb, etc. I personally hope they change destiny 2 to run in this way, instead of locking each class to a very limited set of abilities. Edit: I'm speaking about doing things this way for destiny 2, they would have to put more thought into the possible combinations, but I think this would be a much better class system. It allows for more diversity between classes, and when you see an enemy in pvp throw a grenade you won't immediately know what super they have, it'll add a layer of versatility to your abilities that I think would be a good thing for destiny 2

  • I would rather just have more subclasses. I like your idea but it would be almost impossible to implement properly without making some things way too powerful.

  • I like your thinking, but then the class thing really wouldn't matter (and you could be very op) it would be more like skyrim then, no class, just "you" I think Destiny should stick with the classes.

    • In final fantasy 14, they have the usual class system, but they have 12 classes with added on jobs and you can play as any class with the switch of your weapon, what's so good about it is each class is truly needed in some way, they have made it impossible to solo any raid, and encourage you to try out new classes, even giving you abilities to use from others to future enhance your character, I could be a mage but a skill from the archer class could further enhance my magic power.

    • Actually it would have the opposite affect you'd want.. I've seen this in other games (Darkfall) if this was the case every single person would run the most op build and that would be the only build you could run to keep up

      • I feel like it would be really easy to make a really over powered class. Trip mine grenade. Increased control/triple jump Hammer of sol Scorch + flame shield/throwing knife + melting point Increased super duration Cauterize

              • I like that idea. Simply equates to more options.

                  • That would be a great idea. But logistically, they can't even balance subclasses now. That many options for building, one specific build would be too OP. It would become a "requirement". Then everybody would build it, use it. Then it would have to be nerfed, or done away with completely.
