Bungie uses a lag compensation algorithm to level the playing field .. Internet latency varies moments to moment as upload and download speeds fluctuate.. Much like your standing in the shower and the sprinklers kick on.. You might have a green bar but your on a broad band network .. If 40 people on your hop suddenly jump on Netflix your ping can drop below acceptable levels.. You could have the best internet in the world but your not exclusive on your network.. You could take the algorithm out and be all so happy until you run into somebody with a better internet connection that you .. Then it's not about gear or tactics or anything .. It's only about your ping

  • Yeah tell that to the guys that can take FOUR melee hits without losing a shred of health.

That's good and fine when creating lobbies, most of the time everyone in a lobby is green-barred. Problem is once the match starts suddenly folks start red-barring (ie, manipulating their connection quality). It's then those same folks who don't seem to take damage or rubber-band all over the place. A better algorithm would use data regarding ping rate over time; that is, it would look at previous matches and develop an average rate based on match-play data, not just data while people are sitting in orbit waiting for match-making. They apparently already use an algorithm as you described and it obviously doesn't work :/ https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/175135286/0/0 ...

  • I totally understand where your coming from, the original poster was saying that it's all about Internet connection and that people with lower bandwidths shouldn't be allowed to even play.. I was just trying to indicate that the algorithm I'm use was designed to level the playing field.. NOW! That being said .. Guys or girls that are bridging their consoles thru a computer are manipulating the network connection are a serious issue.. Personally I feel that anyone using a computer to either manipulate their connection or to modify stats., should have their IP tracked .. I'm not sure if the current cyber crime laws cover network manipulation of gaming platforms but a cease and desist letter from your internet provider that outlines potential consequences could go a long way .. Just saying
