Apparently, just as its name suggests, TIL illuminates what exists inside of a person. Not everyone is as nice or as well-meaning on the inside as they'd like you to think they are, and they are willing to expose such ugliness to the outside world. But it's what is inside of them that is ugly, and it is not the fault of the light which illuminates their personal ugliness. "It is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness."

 • Well when it's called the -blam!- lamp, I'd say that's pretty damn close to "cursing the darkness"

 • Well, I'm a Dean's List student and I was in AP English in high school. So I'm pretty smart, thank you. All I'm saying is if this turns into a thing then Bungie should do something about it. Is that really such a terrible thing to say?

 • Yeah because it's a video game nothing should be done. You should grow up and not let others bother you. The world isn't pretty. You're not getting special treatment

 •
Yeah because it's a video game nothing should be done. You should grow up and not let others bother you. The world isn't pretty. You're not getting special treatment
Right, so it would be ok for a T rated game to have the N word in the dialogue. I mean you said so yourself, the world isn't pretty, we all should grow up and not let others bother us, and we're not getting special treatment.

 • No it shouldn't..your thought process is what's wrong with this world..people contrive something and perceive it as offensive and everything must change to accommodate them..IDIOT!

I'm saying it should be changed because it's been turned into that. I'm just agreeing with OP, that's all. I understand where you're coming from, and typically I would agree, but the N word is one of the most offensive words in the English vocabulary.

 • And yet a majority of rap music artists use this word multiple times in every song they record. A large portion of the black community (at least where I'm from), calls each other this word multiple times a day. Everyone who shares this guys mentallity (the one who made the original post), has alot of work to do, because until the rest of us see an effort to stop this word in all manner of use, and not just selectively, then we're not taking you seriously.

I am aware of this (can't speak for OP) but even still I feel that it's acceptable in certain contexts (whether it should be or not is a separate conversation) while in others it isn't. Just as an example, if a Caucasian person went up to an African American person that they didn't know and called them a N-----, it wouldn't go over well, and in some situations they would be asking for something to happen to them.

The word inward doesn't sound anything like n-----. And so what if it does. It is just a game. I know that this specific word refers to slavery, but nowdays getting offended by it is ridicilous. If someone calls you with the N-word you shouldn't be offended by it, you should be proud of it. This is like someone would call you gay when you are gay. You can compare this to something like GTA 5's strippers and prostitutes. Feminists got so offended when this information reached their ears. As a result of this GTA 5 got pulled out of several stores in the states. I mean come on the game is for adults only. People get offended by every stupid thing nowdays because they have too much spare time. People have to start care less and move on to this century. Bng can't and shouldn't do anything to the weapons name. What are you going to change it to? Pegasus who is called Cupcake rainbow? I'm sure somebody will get offended by that name as well. You can never please everyone. If you don't like something, ignore it and move on in your life. Nobody is forcing you to play with those players who refer the inward lamp to the N-word. There are thousands of people who have never even heard about this refer or even thought about it. Play with them and your problem is solved.

 • Um, the n-word is still considered one of the most offensive words in the English language. I don't know what you're talking about.

 • It hasn't been turned into that- this is an isolated sample of the game playership. Again- changing everything to accommodate the few is a fundamentally erroneous way to operate. Whether or not a word is offensive is entirely contingent on how you perceive it..if you recognize that these are a bunch of immature kids throwing vulgar rhetoric around, then you'll understand that changing it because of them- sends the wrong message. Inward is unequivocally not an offensive term. The N word, like any over slur, is offensive to some in certain contexts. It's promulgation is in part because of the casual use between friends or in contemporary music. This whole thread is inane.

My concern though is that this will catch on, in which case it would be a problem, wouldn't it?

 • It wouldn't- because censorship for something completely irrelevant like the term "inward" is preposterous...people who have racist or vulgar or sophomoric predilections will find something else to pervert..again- the fact that this is a thread is a testament to the decline of our generation at the hands of political correctness.

 • The casual use is what makes people feel as if it's acceptable to say these things- changing something like the innocuous moniker of a gun will do nothing to decrease the use of the word...telling people NOT to use the term, is what will remediate the issue

 • Nah, it shouldn't. User experience while playing games on the internet is unrated, so if you don't like it, stop playing. There are plenty of people who are not ignorant. If you find yourself in a group that actually says this (I have never heard it called this before), then find a new group. The ignorant people saying this will continue to be ignorant regardless of what this weapons name sounds like. Thanks
