It goes back to Abraham, the crusades, WWII, creation of Israel, Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria. It's 5000 years of complicated religious and political events, all framed around violence. Which is why we shouldn't get involved. Helping Syrians won't fix anything. If we get involved, the Islamic extremist rhetoric will be western invasion and pushing our western ideals on them. If we don't get involved, the rhetoric is that we are evil and don't care. There is no success to be had in the Mideast and everytime we get involved, we further destabilize an already unstable situation.
