Nows the time to ipgrade if you havent done so already. The consoles are gonna be discounted for the holiday season, making this the best chance you have to get one for a year.
If you dont have the money to spare for one now, just put away a dollar a day, more if you can. You may not be able to afford it for a while, but you will one day
And keep an ear to the ground. As soon as rumors of a new gen of consoles start going around, start saving a dollar a day. Youll be able to afford at least one new console at launch

So in 6 years I should start saving a dollar a day to hopefully have enough at launch of gen 9?... ok.... but why not just use the 6+ years between to get ready for it?

You could do that too. But that kind of saving is difficult for most people. The willpower to not spend that on random shit just isnt there
