Where do you sell stuff? Or how? All I see is the "drop" option

There are merchants that "barter" with you. There are like six of them in Diamond city. You just sell what you don't want for caps or trade it's your choice.

So I must reach Diamond City first? Just started playing tonight and I'm new to the Fall Out series

Not necessarily, since it's an open world kind of game, but I'd start there if you are looking to buy/rid yourself of stuff.
