You have to be level 25 with the faction to unlock the quest

if you played in year one its easy. New players will take a while. My warlock is level 10 with all factions and 48 with DO, Titan level 36 DO, and Hunter has all factions at level 8 and DO at level 33. You used to have to wear a class item for that faction but now you just have to pledge to them. Do bounties and cash in whatever materials you are not using, asd you should go up quickly. Not sure if nightfalls and heroics still give rep or not but they used to

so you are more than half way there bro. The exotic class item quest opens up at level 25. Just make sure to do as many bounties each day as you can (PvE and PvP) and cash in any extra mats you have in the vault. By this time next week you should be damn close to 25. If you are right on the edge of a level just run to patrol and do some missions. The VIP kills give the most rep for this but any of the missions work. I will have to check and see if the heroics still give rep or not but if they do that would be a good way to level up also

Use motes of lights to level up your faction. They are the best way to level up factions these days.

Yeah, to get the exotic faction class item. You have to kill 500 Minions of the Darkness, complete 10 heroic strikes, slay 250 crucible foes, and win 10 crucible matches while having a faction class item, shader, and emblem equipped.
