You ever hear of an actual soldier who decided to take off their helmet in a firefight cause they wanted people to see how good they looked? No? I wonder why. The helmet protects your head, literally the most important thing to protect on your body. Why would you think it would make an ounce of sense to just take that off in combat? One shot from any enemy to your face and you'd die. Also, Helmets count for a large portion of your light level. You'd lose around 40 light by taking your helmet off, making you insanely weak. Just go sit in the tower if you want people to see your face.

  • Have you ever heard of an actual soldier "calling the storm" and shooting lightning at alien wizards? No? I wonder why. There are so many areas of the game where realism is cast out for the sake of the fantasy the developers intended for the game, so why draw the line here? Almost every other MMO has this same simple cosmetic feature. I want to be able to hide my helmet for the same reasons that I change the dyes on my armor, it's an athsetic choice that I would like to be in the game. I'm not asking to unequip the helmet, I'm asking to HIDE it. You don't unequip your helmet when you're in the tower. You would keep all the stats, benefits, and light level on your character just the same. I really don't understand why this concept seems so hard to grasp for people playing this game, it's really not complicated.

  • It's cause you're talking about armor, in this situation. Armor isn't something that can be stripped off, man. I understand this isn't a realistic game and all, but you're asking to take off the thing protecting your head. I'd be all for it if it operates like the masks, where you lose all your light from the helmet, along with all the perks, but no matter how sci-fi things get, armor is armor.

  • I don't want to loose any light from the helmet or any of its perks. I want a simple aesthetic option to hide it away. Even on the note of it being about armor, the game doesn't operate on a realistic level as to how armor works. The armor the players wear does so little to protect the player, which is why the regenerating shields on each player are the primary element of our durability to attacks. Headshots are still the most effective way to kill any player, when the whole point of a helmet is to make that not the case. If you REALLY wanted to be realistic, then the most effective way to kill a player wouldn't be on their head, it would be on their neck, where the armor is thinnest and where the most vitals can be hit.

  • It can be hidden at the tower. But you understand the mask was exactly the same as not wearing a helmet, right? It was a paper mask attached to the guardians head. You dropped in light, and lost the perks, cause it wasn't a helmet. If you chose not to wear a helmet, it should operate under the same mechanics.

  • I know it can be hidden at the tower, but I want my character to look cool WHILE I'm doing cool things. I don't want my character to look his best when he's standing around and buying things. I want to be able to use a super move on my Hunter while not grimacing at the ugly helmet I'm wearing and thinking about how much cooler it would look if I could just see my Exo's awesome face instead. No it shouldn't at all work like the masks. It should be a simple option in the visual elements of your character to justify the existence of the creation of your character's face in the first place. This option should work exactly like it does in the tower, but also affect your appearance in combat scenarios.

  • But then the question is asked, why do we need armor at all? If it can be done with helmets, why not just wear some casual clothing into battle? Not to mention the fact that you'd be seeing the back of your characters head, you'll be in first person combat a majority of the time, making this a near unnoticeable change unless you're playing a multiplayer game mode, and, since you want this specifically for your Hunter, you'll be wearing a hood into battle, so you wouldn't see the change at all. I'd much rather see Bungie spend time on a useful change to the game, one that needs to be done, in comparison to a vanity change that doesn't make sense

  • The armor is there to look cool and to carry statistical adjustments to the player character, that is the whole point of armor in games (especially in rpgs/mmos). The reason why not casual cloths is because they likely believe that would clash with the game's art style in general. They clearly believe you character's face fits within their art design, since it's something they fully developed to be customizable and a required step in creating a character. I don't know where you got the idea of seeing the back of a your character's head. The player sees their own character's head whenever an emote is performed, in cutscenes, whenever the player uses a super move, and whenever the player uses the sword weapons. I also don't know what you're even trying to say when you're talking about the hunter hoods. This cosmetic change would require almost no effort or development time. The option is already available in non-combat zones and would simply need for the option to carry over into combat areas. Besides, Destiny already dedicates a good bit of development to vanity changes, like the dye system, the new emotes, the emblems, the player ships, the player speeder bikes, any form of new looking armor, any new looking weapons, etc.

  • I just feel like if anything, it would take people out of the game. Opinions are opinions, and apparently we disagree.

  • But there's already characters who don't wear helmets in combat areas or locations with breathable air. The Exo stranger lady never wears a helmet, but we see her on the Moon and on Venus. Also, the Awoken's space station doesn't exactly look like it would have breathable air, but they all walk around with no helmets, and even players can take their helmets off there. This is a simple feature that is in every other mmo and it shouldn't take anyone out of the game any more than seeing plants and buildings on Venus, which is a planet with a surface temperature of 860 degrees Fahrenheit (or 462 Celsius) with clouds of sulfuric acid. Now tell me again why a hide helmet option would be SOOOO unrealistic. Also alien wizards and magic space ball.

  • Well, let's see: For this example, I'll be assuming the character in question is a human, since we actually understand their limitations. -We couldn't breath on the Moon without a helmet -We couldn't breath on Venus without a helmet -We couldn't breath on Mars without a helmet -We wouldn't be able to breath on a spaceship full of cracks and holes into the vacuum -You'd be in combat for a majority, or all of the time you choose not to wear a helmet. This leaves you overly vulnerable since it's your ARMOR that has a shield, not the humans themselves. To take off that armor is to lose that shield. -Helmets have Stats on them. To be able to take off that helmet and still maintain it's stats is saying I should be able to melee kill an enemy and still have Crowd Control or Luck In The Chamber activate. -Many of the things you see that are on your screen are due to your helmets HUD, meaning that if taken off you would lose the ability to see your reticle, your super meter, your grenade and melee energy charge rate, what weapons you have equipped, how much ammo they have, even your health bar. -Your ghost displays information to you through your helmet. To take it off means to lose all interactions with your ghost, other than verbal ones. This means objective markers, patrol markers, and other things would not be visible. -On planets like Mars, dust storms and sand would constantly block your Guardians vision, seeing as their eyes would be exposed to whatever the natural elements are. The Reef is a social space, and I think it would be safe to assume that there is some sort of life support system on the reed, that helps protect those on it. This would most likely include Awoken, since they're modified Humans, struck by the light and the darkness. As for the Exo Stranger not wearing a helmet, understand that A. She is a Robot, one that is obviously different or modified from the current Exos, as she can teleport B. We never see her in combat, only AFTER fighting. She herself is never in harms way when we speak to her. C. We never see her in combat, meaning she could have a helmet that she could wear, possibly via that teleportation ability. D. The rest of her body is armored. It is a very safe bet that she wears a helmet.

  • -Giant magic space ball that gives space magic to people. -Alien Wizards -No airtanks on any player character despite how long players can live inside non-breathable atmospheres. -Floating magical robot that can drive a ship by itself, hack any piece of technology, phase through solid objects, and RESURRECT THE DEAD. -Venus has plants and human-built cities despite the temperatures making Venus a place that is unsustainable for any life at all since anything that tries to go there will burn to ash in a couple minutes -Helmets and ARMOR actually providing almost no real protection for players from attacks of any sort, and instead players exclusively rely on a projected regenerating shielding. -Guardians being restricted to what kinds of armor they can wear and "Warlocks" opting to wear the armor with the least possible protection for no real reason. -Many helmets that can be worn, despite no clear visor or eye holes, meaning the wearer could not possibly see. -Wearing different armor increasing your intelligence, physical strength, or discipline just by wearing it. -All guardians regenerate from physical injury over the course of a few seconds, like it never even happened. -The Rift has a tremendous opening to open space and it is a place that would be impossible to have a natural or ,let alone, breathable atmosphere. If something is there to allow for breathable air, then it is almost 100% guaranteed to be full-on space magic. -Every single player is a space magic-infused zombie that can use "the power of the sun," throw lightning at people, and use whatever the hell "the void" is in combat because of space magic. -Players are unable to harm each other when in "pve" areas, even from point blank shots to the face and firing explosives at each other, while pvp arenas able to keep players from harming their own team. Realism died here a long, long time ago. I know there's a level of suspension of disbelief in any fantasy, but in light of ALL OF THE ABOVE FACTORS, I think the ability to hide the helmet visually on your character while keeping it equipped and keeping its benefit is REALLY not too much to ask.
