A more linear and immersive story. Jones, you had a good run, but it is time to let go of the wheel buddy. Go back to what you are good at doing, top dog or whatever, and let those who understand storytelling take that helm and run with it.
An extension of the previous suggestion, a proper introduction to the enemy and less "enemies" per story/dlc arc. Here's enemy X, enemy Y, enemy Z, and enemy Potato...they are all trying to kill you....*audience's understanding and ability to focus on one thing overloads....audience no longer cares about what's going on*
Introduction to more fun and re-playable endgame content. Strikes and their rewards are a good start. Prison of Elders was....meh at best. Firefight was your greatest endgame PvE playlist ever constructed and yet it seems to be missing in Destiny...for reasons well beyond my comprehension.
Let's get a more open world concept going.
Boy, those are some pretty cool ship designs in the hanger. Why is there so much dust on all of them? Oh sorry got distracted, moving on.
No more of this "do a mission, go back to the tower for next part of the story quest, do another mission, go back to the tower for next part of the story quest." If we told Eris the crystal was empty and she tells us we are going to need a god's essence inside it there is no excuse for us to have to first stop back at the tower to get mommy's permission to go get the crystal filled. If this world was remotely perceived as being plausible, the universe as we knew it would have died half way through the Taken King arc b/c of all the time we wasted going back to the tower to make sure we got "permission" from the vanguard before moving onto the next part of the story.
On a similar note, if a threat is going to be perceived as a threat by the audience then the "defenders" of the city better be equally active in the mounting defense against it. "We are so absolutely worried about the survival of the last city on earth that we are going to make sure we do everything in our power to do absolutely nothing except continue to stand around in a circle around this table while occasionally spouting totally chill conversation quips to passing players as if nothing is wrong." Oh ya, I'm really starting to feel the impending doom now. Immersion complete, where's my achievement?
X3 As you can tell most of my suggestions are story oriented.

I agree with much of this.
