This is the first I've heard of this. It sounds like a hardware issue with the system based in your comments. I have seen several instances with many games that result in only one game being affected. This is usually fixed by having the system repaired or replaced.

Sony support told me multiple times that it was NOT a hardware issue, and my system had been serviced only a few weeks prior.

You are the only person I've seen report this issue and I read the help forums almost daily. On the other hand I have seen this issue happen with other games numerous times. Food for thought, I'd wager if you got a new system the issue would magically disappear.
