Most time-gated Exotics seem to be acquired through quest lines and are not obtainable via engrams. Also, it is unclear whether or not engrams have a predetermined loot table. I would recommend just decoding them all now.

No, not all Exotics are obtained via quests. Most, in fact, are dictated by RNG. There's no downside, no, and if you want you can totally save them to see if they will drop currently time-gated Exotics later. There's just a chance that that will not work.

Exotic quest = Exotic weapon. No? I think you misread that part of my post.

I did misread your post. Well, we don't know for sure whether or not Exotic quests will only give out Exotic weapons in the future. We also don't know for sure whether or not chest engrams have predetermined loot tables when you buy them. Give it a go, see what happens. I suppose it doesn't hurt.
