OK we have all these conservative politicians saying its a mental health issue. Well where the hell is any legislation to help that? They can say its mental health all they want. But until they actually pass things to help improve our countries mental health I won't listen to a word they say.

  • What would you propose to help societies mental health? Honestly psychology is a joke of a science we understand next to nothing regarding "mental health".

  • I think it's a mental health/society issue ( •_•)/ Taking the guns away would be fine with me if, they'd also put a very large effort into helping the youth deal with their issues. But knowing how things work, they'll just take the guns away, and be like "oh no more school shootings everything's great." While those who would of committed the shootings, and many others are left to suffer.

That is dumbest thing I've ever heard. You can't prevent mental illnesses.

Why? I didn't say the word prevent at all. I said improve, like as a whole. Seriously these people always say it is a mental health issue, well how many are seriously doing anything about that? How many actually want to learn what makes these people (and any violent criminal for that matter) tick? You can make initiatives to spot behaviors characteristic of people who do these things before they even become a threat. There is a possibility of preventing mental illness from hurting others which is what I'm talking about. You may not be able to cure it, but you can keep others safe from people deemed dangerous. Our country does not care about mental health, why do you think so many homeless have serious mental health issues? People say its a mental health issue, yet I rarely see anyone do anything about it other than say those words. I added conservative because it is a very common argument i have heard when these things happen. Even Obama said this though to be fair.

The problem is, unless you place everyone under watch, you won't be able to spot the illnesses. There's a reason many of these people that do this have always been thought of as the normal, happy people with stable lives.

  • Not under watch, but given evaluations while in school, and even at work. Something that all people go to.

That could happen. But then people would whine about personal liberties and whatnot. And some people just snap. It's not a noticeable problem from youth, it's just a build-up of stress, pressure, and negative influence, and then the straw that broke the camel's back.

  • It is very noticeable in many cases. Plenty of times these people were bullied or assaulted unmercifully and it is a big root of their problems.
