He's not he's watching the prison. Guards working at prisons aren't "in prison" just because they are there.

why do i feel like no one pays attention to eris morn when she talks. she clearly says that alak'hul rose against oryx challenging his throne, oryx imprisoned him and he awaits the mercy of the hive. so yes he was held in the "sunless cell". you're breaking into his jail cell to kill him because he is a worthy successor to the throne. smh, listen to the dialogue.

That's Alak-Hul. The guy in the cutscene is Ecthar. Talk about not paying attention.

That's not who they are talking about. His names Ecthar, you kill him for a step on the exotic sword quest. He is in the asylum, guards the prison and is just past the founts.
