This isn't a game theory. The traveler being evil was confirmed in Marty's lawsuit. I'm also sure it was confirmed elsewhere

The Traveler being evil was the original plot of Destiny, but it was scrapped. The Traveler is confirmed in the Books of Sorrow to not be evil in any way, shape, or form

There was proof that he [u]was[/u] evil, but story changed to make it good. Still doesn't change the early trailers and story showing what it was, but changed during development. I'm sure when the first built the game that staten and Marty saw, the traveler model was already made and his role was already established
