You make a valid point regarding the joining in progress, but I cannot agree with removing fireteams. I've been around for quite a while, and having two Rumgle fireteams of my friends fight each other is so much fun. Being in any gamemode with friends is what I believe defines Destiny. To remove that social aspect from any part of the game would simply be taking away a core aspect and one of the major reasons of the game.
