I remember seeing the deleted han solo and jabba (when jabba was a human in a fur waist coat) scene from episode iv, when I watched it on British TV in the 80's.
Was it left in by accident or is my memory -blam!-ed?

That was the original Jabba. For the special edition and all future releases Jabba was the Hutt as we know him now. His species is litteraly called Hutt. From the plant Nullhutta.
