  • The Hopson research sparked some outrage about its potential use way back when dude pushed his article on behavioral psychology in Gamasutra. It seems much of what he wrote about has come to fruition. With Destiny, it feels it is being moved from the mobile/Farmville/MMO world and into the FPS space. Destiny is a clever gambit in that respect. I notice the "empty calories" of playtime in Destiny most when I play a game that isn't RNG-grind/operant conditioning. I play 3 Battlefront matches and I feel instantly entertained. I play through a few checkpoints in Halo 2 (working my way though MCC), and I feel satiated. No need to grind extra time for loot so my character is "ready" or good enough to raid or compete in IB or Trials. Destiny is always nagging you to play it, lest you miss out on your legendary marks for the day. Or you miss Arms Day. Or Xur. Or the daily mission with a hidden prize. That isn't entertainment. That becomes an obligation. Especially, if you have buds you run with and don't want to be that dude too low level for the group activity. I think I will check out KoA. Thanks for the recommendation.

Dude, Kingdoms of Amalur!!! SUCH a great game!!!! That was one of the first games I dumped serious, serious time into. And that wasn't even an online game. I still pop it in now and then. Out of the 2 DLC's make sure you get the Dead Kel pack. Sooooooooooo much to do. I invite sheep to play KoA and see what REAL content for your buck looks like with no grind. I wish Curt Schilling wasn't such an idiot with money and that we could have gotten a KoA 2 :(

  • First, I must say that Kingdoms of Amalur was great. Second, I admire your devotion in deleting every piece of gear you owned before deleting the game. O.o

  • YES! Thanks for your story. I will look into isochronic tones and read the article, this is the first I've heard of them. Kingdom of Amular is always on a Steam sale, I may look into it :)
