That's fair, I smoked cigarettes for just under 8 years. Then I quit, and about a year after that I discovered cigars, and got super into it, and it ended up becoming one of my favorite hobbies, which lead to me working in the industry. Then I discovered hookah, and just recently have gotten into pipe smoking. Now days I seem to smoke every tobacco product that isn't cigarettes.
And now I don't consider myself addicted to tobacco ever since I quit smoking cigarettes, as I don't feel any of the physical or mental "need" to smoke like I used to. I go through stretches of not smoking anything at all for days, weeks, sometimes months, and it doesn't bother me. No headaches, irritability, urges, or any other symptoms typically associated with cigarette withdrawal. All of which were very familiar to me after I quit smoking cigarettes. Most cigar/hookah/pipe smokers feel the same way.
TL;DR: I'd recommend making the switch, though it is much easier to quick cigarettes if you give up tobacco entire for at least 6 months. But at the same time, you're an adult who can make their own choices, and I don't and would never judge anyone for smoking cigarettes or any kind of tobacco.
Also you don't have to quit smoking cigarettes to enjoy cigar or pipe smoking. Plenty of my regular customers smoke cigarettes and cigars. Cigarettes to get their fix, and cigars to relax and enjoy. I'd say give it a go, you never know you may love it.
Well, that's the thing once you break the addiction then you don't need to break out anything every 20 minutes. I generally only smoke my pipe once a day, a cigar, and maybe some hookah at night.
And again, I'm just saying my experience, not trying to tell you to quit or anything.
