Edited by Progo: 10/12/2015 3:03:21 PMI'm really digging how you communicated flames with so few lines! Excellent use of white space is the technical term I suppose.

Thank you!

Nicely done, wish I could draw that level of detail without messing up

There are plenty of 'mistakes' in there. Your slips and mistakes can add to your line work. Start by making a mess with your chosen media, brush, pen, pencil and you'll start to understand how to control the line without being too precious. It takes time and practise, but the time and practice is the fun part!
-
Indeed, my main problem is my line work though. My drawing style is very "sketchy" if you know what I mean
-
What do you normally draw with? Play around to find a media that makes the most of your sketchy mark making. I love using brush and ink, brush pens are great to play around with too. A friend of mine used a straw from a drinks carton to draw for years. Her line work was amazing - really different and so much life in them.

A straw? That's awesome! I'd love to see some of that I'm most familiar with using a basic pencil but I've been trying to branch out and use pens or my drawing tablet.
-
My recommendation is stay away from graphics tablets until you have a strong understanding of some physical media you love. I used my graphics tablet for years, and it wasn't until I went back to traditional media I realised how much I was relying upon software to make me feel good at drawing. Since improving my traditional media use I've seen big improvements in how I use digital media too. And despite what graphics tablet advertising would have you believe, you don't have to spend any money to get good at drawing. Drawing with a straw and ink proves that. Hell, whilst I was studying I drew a whole book using left over tea. (Not overly recommended for anything other than fun!)

Edited by Mezuka: 10/12/2015 3:51:12 PMI've got a pretty good grasp on drawing physically (though I always have plenty of room for improvement). My tablet work has only been recently and isn't my preferred medium, I still work best with a pencil in my hands. My main issues currently are posing and perspective with some issues in anatomy (mainly legs and lower torso). The added issue would be my problems drawing a single line as my drawing style is very "sketchy"
-
It's good to recognise where you have room for improvement! No one is ever done learning. Life drawing/reportage sketchbook work is the BEST way to improve anatomy knowledge in my opinion. :)

Agreed,a lot of my body sketching in the past year have helped, I just can't seem to get the lower body to look right yet
