So the community has appeared to have a fairly negative reaction to the Sleeper. I won't deny that the quest was simplistic and easy at best, but the weapon itself really shines. Lets look at some numbers:
Black Spindle, which is considered one of the best single-target damage dealers, does ~76k per shot on Golgoroth. The Sleeper does ~155k per shot. The fire rate of the Sleeper is about 2/5 that of the Spindle (excluding reload). This is the equivalent of ~69k damage per 76k damage from spindle.
What this means is that the Sleeper rivals one of the BEST SINGLE TARGET WEAPONS IN THE GAME, albiet with a single reload. However, the sleeper is a lot more versatile, as it doesn't require 3 rapid precision shots to maintain dps.
TL:DR Sleeper is a pretty damn good weapon.
Edit: For those pointing out that the Sleeper has only 7 shots, this thread is comparing dps, not total damage. Various other factors come into play at that point.
Edit: Aaand my first thread ever is trending. Damn.

Definitely would be nice when I run out of special in golgoroth(yes I use the raid sniper as I don't have the black spindle)

4 RepliesI love this gun. Easy to aim melts bad guys... and it's still not at full power. I think once I get it to 310 somthing else will unlock

Sleeper is too underpowered

1 ReplyIt just shows bungie is figuring out how to design guns for this game, Gjallahorn was designed before the game was even finished so they had no idea how OP it was gonna be but with a full year of the game gone by they have learnt from their mistakes and know what will suit this game and what won't. Sleeper is a good weapon, it does huge damage but it isn't OP. This gun was never gonna be near the strength of Gjallahorn, people need to understand that

I like that you can 1 shot Taken Lieutenants. Does take a week to charge mind but I'm liking her so far...

1 ReplyIt's a very well balanced weapon, not op nor up. It takes decent aim to make it shine. If you're not good at critshots, this is simply not the exotic for you. The only thing I would change is replace the riccochet multi perk by a fast reload one.

Needs a nerf

Underpowered

4 RepliesIt is literally the gun of destiny. All hype no substance

Dismantled.

Edited by Grimey Dark: 10/9/2015 9:19:58 AMEverybody just hyped this weapon so much that it couldn't do anything else but dissapoint. And all that because GameInformer claimed that SS would be the new Gjalarhorn.

5 RepliesIs the damage calculations at 290 or 310?
-
Yeah but the black spindle has 23 bullets with sniper ammo perk. That's more then 6-7 shots and if your good that's 23 straight shots without a reload. Dps id use the spindle gives a heavy lmg backup to finish him off or destroy adds. I by no means dislike the ss, but i can't see it becoming my go to raid gun ammo reserve too low. It will be useful in strikes that major becoming a problem boom dust

5 RepliesIf it can melt Light Eater Ogres on Oryx in 1-2 shots then maybe it has a use. If not then I don't see a point in using it. Snipers in general, BS included, are the prime weapon for Warpriest and golgoroth. ToM is the prime weapon for sisters and golgoroth. Like i said, if it can melt the ogres in one shot then it may have a big use in the raid, having 1-2 people using this can help out cu you really only need 3 people with ToM to flinch Oryx. Has anyone tried using it on the Ogre's?

It's amazing but I got a feeling this is not the full gun just yet if looking closely to the midnight exigent still in progress meaning something more is to come for it.
-
3 RepliesI dont care about its power. I sharded mine on the fact its a fusion. Period. Same with the spindel... oh wait I didnt get one because its a sniper and I dont snipe. You want me to snipe? Okay pay for my game. No? Then stfu and gtfo of here.

The gun is bullocks, not sure what you're talking about. Sure it's fun to screw around with but it really isn't a "Boss killer" like Ghorn was, which is what the sleeper simulant was supposed to replace. IMHO it's not very efficient, low ammo which doesn't allow the weapon to really put in a high dps. Long charge rate which makes it almost pointless for the new raid. All in all, the SS is a fun play toy, not very efficient for pve, and doesn't come close to the weapon Bungie says to be its predecessor (The nerfed Y2 gjally is actually better than the SS in its current state)
-
Amazing in PvP. One shots anything. 495 to body and 700+ (forgot) to the head Charge rate is the only thing holding it back!
-
3 RepliesIt just feels lacking. It's missing "je ne sais quoi". I can't can't put my finger on what it's missing, but it's not really giving me a reason to use it over truth or black spindle or the tom. I don't know what i want on it, but i know ricocheting rounds is not what it should have, just makes a useless glorified laser light show of wasted damage.
-
People only think it's weak because everyone was -blam!-ing hyping it.
-
Id use the stimulant regularly in the raid but unfortunately special ammo (Black Spindle ammo) is easier to find than heavy ammo (stimulant ammo)
-
Its fun to use. Is that not enough?
-
your comparing a special weapon to a heavy weapon though. I like the SS but I would prefer a rocket instead and still have a sniper.
-
3 RepliesBecause this gun takes precision to be effective. Not like the Ghorn of old, where it was just pull the trigger and instant mad DPS. It takes AIMING which is revolutionary to half this community.
