Because you still have a chance to get access to two exotics, rather than one, when it is one that has a year two version. Year one versions have some different perks/abilities and are still completely viable for use in regular crucible and older gaming content...

You have a high chance to get an exotic you don't have, and exotic that will complete your collection or give you a chance to unlock the new version in the blueprints. Strange coins are not that hard to get. Xur sells many stuff. The price is okay because it makes it kind of hard to decide what you want to buy. If it were cheaper then it would be easy to buy everything xur is selling for the week.
