Though to be fair, a lot of the quotes attributed to Pahanin seem to indicate he already had a few issues, even before he was recruited to Kabr's Fireteam. He seemed...jittery and prone to odd comments.

A lot of new evidence has come up that makes it seem like the timeline we were given not entirely accurate. Plus it seems there was a lot of messing with time warps etc, so it's possible he had it during their last attempt.
