Hi,
Make sure you're killing regular captains (not majors or ultras). There are two captains that respawn very quickly in the Forgotten Shore on Earth. One on the ship, and one in the building above Rasputins underground bunker. You can drive back and forth between the two and kill them as they spawn easily

Thank you! This must be the issue. I was killing the one on Venus that spawns on the balcony from the cave. He is a major. I didn't realize that was going to be the issue. Thanks!!! Gunsmith here I come! :)

If you happen to be on Venus then go to the Ishtar Cliffs where there's always one up on that hill being attacked by a minotaur a few other vex though the respawn rate is low - which is frustrating when you want the 10 kills. He's the one I've generally used for the gun tests. Thanks to Kellogs above - I was racking my brain trying to think where I'd seen captains without yellow bars - completely forgotten the Forgotten Shore!

That is the issue with all majors . They don't count for anything but Major kills.
