Anything that isn't a primary weapon or helmet is considered extra loot. If you got the machine gun and shards from oryx, you got the extra loot and not his normal loot.

Yea, I believe I misspoke, I got a machine gun and no shards. Im not sweating it as much anymore, because I am going to run it on a diff character, but it still sucks.
