This is all very well thought out. My take, Rasputin figures out that the Traveler (the Light) is a polar opposite to the hive (The Darkness). Much like how Batman and the Joker are opposites, they also exist because of each other. Rasputin calculates that maybe if he (it) paralyzes the light, it might also paralyze the dark. By removing the Traveler from the equation, Rasputin effectively removes the motivation of the Hive for conquest. If you read the new TTK grimoire cards, the worms are always feeding, and they need more and more to survive. The traveler is effectively making food for the Hive by bringing other civilizations to their golden age. If they think the Traveler is dead, they effectively starve death. .... Or I could be pulling this story from my butt.

  • Innnnnteresting...the Traveler is referred to as the Gardner, after all. Perhaps humanity is the crop the Travler is cultivating before being harvested by the Hive.

If this was true, then the Hive would have to be unknowing of this, because in the Books of Sorrow, they seem to be genuinely against the Traveler. Also, the Traveler tries to kill them with the syzygy. It's possible that the Traveler is up to no good, but the Hive certainly aren't in a concrete alliance with it. It seems more like a situation with a lot of different bad guys with different agendas squeezing humanity into a corner.
