This is nothing new i may be wrong but I'm sure you actually get told this in game when you first use a scorch cannon in a mission

At around 9:20ish all he says is scorch cannon Very powerful and very rare weapon indeed. But I guess everyone thinks Cannon and immediately thinks they can cook the charges huh?
