I wouldn't say that she was the first exo, but I have some other interesting threads to tie:
It says that they reached out to a warmind to escape a vex mind. Could've been Rasputin?
It's said that someone revived Rasputin after the collapse, could it have been Maya further working with the warmind?
When do these events take place? Perhaps they get trapped in the vex mind as the collapse is happening. Like suddenly the vex activate and it sucks them in? Unsure.
Could Maya have told Rasputin to sabotage the traveler so that it may stay to fight for us? Maybe, Rasputin could've found that on his own though.

[speculation that the Original post is true and that Maya = Exo Stranger] The warmind that they brought into the research facility was Rasputin, I'm pretty sure. Or maybe a Venus warmind. Probably Rasputin. There could be a rapport between Rasputin and Maya because of this. Maybe they trust each other. Could be the Exo Stranger/Maya Sundaresh. Could be Eris Morn. Could be anyone, really. But it's fun to think it's the Stranger since we have nothing else to go on.
