Even though you can play the game any way you want to class exotic items show how bungie intended the classes to be played, at least by weapon type. For example hunters class exclusive weapons are a handcannon and a sniper rifle. From day 1 bungie has always said that hunters use precision damage to accomplish their goals. And when it comes to hand cannons and snipers if you're not getting precision kills then you're wasting your time. Warlocks have always been linked to fusion, pulse rifles and Titans to auto rifles and shotguns. Plus you can get some really good synergy with those weapons and the right perks active in your skill tree.

Personally i think every class should be able to use them excluding the final exotic perk, that way you are rewarded for using the class the weapon is intended for

That's actually a great idea! That way the proper class still gets the added bonuses. The only problem I see from that is why bother to use the weapon if you couldn't get the exotic perk. I guess to boost your attack rating maybe. But you'd still be taking away that exotic slot.

All the more reason to play as the required class. I know I would end up using them on a different class just because I'd be able too

You mean scout Rifles for warlocks
