No the hand held market has not died. Look at nintendo. Keeping that alive all over the world. Second to no one.
As for sony and the vita. Well. I don't think they are making a new one. They seem content with the vita. And now that people have been buying vitas a bit more around the world. It would not surprise me if it started to get a little more support. As for now though. No new one announced. Or even hinted at.

I just love Sony game consoles because of their exclusives and superior hardware.

Superior capabilities doesn't mean much since finding a big library of games on vita is hard. While 3ds I have probably spent enough to buy 2-3 more 3ds's if I wanted.
