There is a RNG difference from my point of view because vanguard streaks kick in a lot earlier and might even give you a legendary on you first try where as the level 36 strike playlist requires that you play more strikes in a row and see little difference over time. Another difference is the difficulty because if you are not the right light level it will be like a nightfall.

Nightfalls are piss easy compared to heroic strikes dude. Nightfalls at least give guardians a buff of some kind. Heroics give nothing.

It all depends on the light level because when i started i was 160 light and when i grinded to 180 light it was basically like a daily heroic of sorts
