I actually tested your 1 complaint I used my queen breakers bow while doing the PoE level 34 prior to TTK, and found that your damage is not determined by your gear, my queen breakers bow did the same amount of damage when I was wearing my light lvl 171 gear, as when I was wearing the first gear you ever get that I kept as a goof, the only thing that changed was naturally the amount of damage that I could take

Bungie themselves stated weapon damage is greatly based on your light level and your weapons light.
-
It's based off their damage which ups your light if you don't believe me "which I understand why you would be sceptic all as by his is rather vague" you may go test this for yourself, as I thought similarly to what you thought so I tested and either it was a glitch, or armory does not determine attack value
-
Pretty sure it had to do with year 1 content. I will test this later, but Bungie has said multiple times how much damage you do is based on avg light level.
-
That was on year one this test was done after the 2.0 patch
-
You also did the test in year 1 content.

Edited by Whateves: 9/22/2015 4:16:01 AMAnd I also took my light level down to what would be akin to 20 which would radically alter my damage output prior to 2.0 update but it didn't

Just tested it. Doing Taken King Mars mission. With 289 Light I was doing 440 body shots 1000 headshots. Lowered my light to 218. 500 headshots and 200 body shots. Bungie was correct in that your light affects the damage you do

What was the light level recommendation for the content? Mine was 250. I don't understand why yours wouldnt lower like mine did.
