So I'm starting to theorize here guys! Well start by saying we can confirm that the traveler moves from location to location. We know based on the grimiore that when the traveler came we entered the golden age and after that we fell into the dark age. Now we fight to protect what remains of the traveller with our lives. Let's apply this to our "enemies of the darkness". Fallen: Obviously they have advanced technological skills. Demonstrated by scorch cannons and the S.A.B.E.R. (For example) that they are making these complex machines from scrap. This leads me to believe that they went through a golden age of sorts as well. Perhaps the traveller was with them once too. Assuming it once was it obviously left probably sending them hurdling into a dark age. With that plunder into chaos the fallen became segregated forming the different houses. (Maybe the houses were structured teams sent to find the traveller again?) the houses then go out trying to find the traveller but become savage without its light. They become pirates and in that forget what it was they're primary goal was from the beginning. Now we fight with them to protect the traveller just as they probably once did. Hive: I'll start by prefacing read the book of sorrows or at-least someone's summary of it. Now let's dive into it. The sisters go to the worms the worms change them into the hive in short. But why did they go to the worms? Perhaps they once too had a traveller and upon its leaving they descended into the dark ages and upon looking for structure and order thy created a monarchy. Upon the Kings death the three sisters go to the worms and the worms basically transform them into a species that in fact embrace the darkness. Looking to destroy the light and all things derived from it but I believe this is the influence of the Wyrms. Wyrms: basically the worm race that spawned the hive race. Many have noticed the similarities between them and the ahamkara. We know from grimoire that the ahamkara began appearing on earth upon the arrival of the traveller. They were hunted into extinction. I believe he Wyrms were ahamkara that became plagued by the darkness once the traveller left. This probably would have happened during our dark ages had we not hunted them into extinction. As for the cabal I don't believe they haven't been exposed to the light of the traveller and have yet to go into a golden age. They have probably however heard of it so the cabal empire created forces to search for the traveller in an attempt to take it. The cabal are in a highly militarized state which is why I believe they never had a traveller because without knowledge people resort to violence. The vex however are a mystery to me. Perhaps the were created by another race during a golden age of the traveler and upon its exit they became corrupt with darkness but they still have the basic program to build and expand. These are just some thoughts so add in if you want I'd love to hear others theory's!

  • It's been confirmed that the traveler was once with the fallen as well. It eventually left the fallen and a war broke out between them, that war caused the Kells to come out and assume command of the eliksni (Actual name of the fallen).

  • The vex are minions of the traveler created by the traveler and were corrputed by the darkness. In the original story the traveler was evil so this would explain a lot

  • In the book of sorrows it specifically specifies that crota cut himself open and out came the vex. Soon after they created the first vex mind who learned the hives sword logic.

  • http://db.destinytracker.com/grimoire/enemies/books-of-sorrow 39 is where it starts talking about it. 42 is the last mention of it. But I recommend reading it all. Very thought provoking.

The Hive were originally a race that lived only 10 years at best. They were short living and were forced to endure a harsh environment and enemies. The 3 sisters fled their kingdom across 3 continents and into an ocean of metal, using a lost "needle" ship they found. They left after being betrayed by Toax, who thought none of them were suited to take the Osmium throne after judging them and seeing their father, the king, descend into madness at 10 years old. He kept a dead worm he called his familiar and often spoke to it. Before he died he revealed to one of the sisters of a devastating wave that would destroy them. The one sister vowed to find out more and figure a way to prevent this. All 3 made an oath to defeat the traitor Toax when they returned stronger. Down in the ocean they discovered a giant Leviathan that told them the truth that their existence was to be short and to struggle and it was part of the balance of all things. They refused to accept this and the worm began speaking to them. It promised that if they pledged obedience to the gods Yul, Eir, Ur, Xol, and Akka, that they would live eternal and learn the truth from "the Deep" (aka the Darkness) about the universe. They ate these worms and fed the hunger of them with death, giving them immortality. They went back to their civilization and told them to do the same, and that is when they all began to be transformed. The sisters grew their power by killing and warring, against each other. They were taught by the worms that existence means to struggle and only the strongest can exist. If they show mercy they must be killed. One of the sisters betrayed Auryx during a battle and killed him. That is when he learned the truth of physical and non-physical existence and was able to return to life. They would kill each other over and over and be recalled by their siblings, each time learning and becoming stronger. There's a bit of confusing parts about "sword logic" and peering into "cuts made into the void". But while the sisters Ir Halak and Ir Anuk began experimenting with deathsinger songs (they created the Oversoul Crota used), Crota too wanted to experiment and he decided to cut into the void. Out of the wound came the Vex. More info: http://db.destinytracker.com/grimoire/enemies/books-of-sorrow/xxxix-open-your-eye-go-into-it Vex simply appear to be a hive mind machine that wants to decipher all possible winning outcomes for the end. It wasn't until they met the Hive that they turned evil and began worshiping. Where they are from or how they became to be has yet to be revealed and I think we'll find out more in the next expansion.

  • Yeah the vex part was my favorite part especially when the vex mind makes tries to recreate oryx and I kiwi fly makes auresh and is reading oryx in real time to ask questions about Xi Ro and the other sister. Really insightful

  • Here's how it went down. In the books, Oryx refers to his armies attacking and defeating a six armed race, which fled into the void. They were previously protected by the TRAVELER. They were the Fallen! So the Traveler gave the Fallen their own Golden Age, but abandoned them in their version of the Collapse, or what the Fallen call the Whirlwind. When the Darkness came to our system, Rasputin knew that the Traveler would leave and incapacitated it so that it couldn't leave us. This explains why Oryx pays special attention to us (why should he? He's a literal God, his will exceeds the universe's laws) and also explains why the Fallen are tracking their God (Traveler) for answers, or redemption.
TL;DR Rasputin killed the Traveler so that it couldn't abandon us like it abandoned the Fallen
• Where do you find that Rasputin did that? And thank you for clarification. I had a feeling I was close.

  • I don't believe Rasputin 4 said anything on the topic(though it was interesting), but the Rasputin 5 card is the main source of this revelation. Rasputin refers to the Traveler as [O] and there's a bunch of stuff in there about VOLUSPA, Midnight exigent, etc, much of the stuff associated with the sleeper simulant and I believe Voluspa is the term that has origins with a sleeping God or something. The card implies that Rasputin is detecting the Traveler attempting to leave the system, sees the situation as important enough to bypass human confirmation, and orders an attack; the type of attack mentioned matches with a card from Vanilla Destiny(one of the race Grimoire ones? I don't remember) that was the perspective of a pilot about to launch a weapon at what seemed to be the end of the Golden Age. The target is never specified but it ends with "We both know where the order came from," which would definitely fit not only Rasputin ordering it but for them to be attacking the Traveler, something they'd no doubt be unsure about. The Rasputin 5 card also mentions a "pseudoaltruistic event" involving [O]; say, for example, disabling it in such a way that it appeared to be a martyr sacrificing itself against the enemy, and knowing that it would protect itself and therefore any humans who took shelter under it; protecting the human race(Rasputin's sole objective, for which he abandoned the majority of the human race by entering sleep for centuries). What this leaves to question then is firstly the true nature of the Ghosts, and secondly the truth behind the Speaker's intentions.

  • Hmm interesting. I've always questioned the speaker. This leads me to question what was causing the traveller to leave. Supposing it only leaves for a reason, such as the early hive attacking the fallen while oryx was still auryx. It also begs the question does the traveller have a conscious mind of its own? Is it communicating with the speaker or is the speaker just a phony and the traveller just radiates light that benefits societies and that's all.

  • I think the Traveler does have a conscious mind based on the dreams of alpha Lupi cards; one of them mentions how the entity it's addressing, which I assume is the traveler, has been worn down immensely, potentially having its true body destroyed if it had one, and feels insignificant and small, a small husk of its former self with no senses left. Based on this and what I believe we're some of the early book of sorrow cards, it sounds like the Traveler goes through this big cycle with the Deep(Darkness but let's be real, it sounds cooler to say) where the Traveler builds up its "fire"(possibly referring to light and life but it could also mean just power to fight back) and the Deep always comes and destroys it. In other words, while the Traveler is at this point a coward I don't think it's malicious intent behind leaving, rather it's desperate and has no way to know if it can fight back so it'll always run.

  • Basically a compilation of a lot of different grimoire cards detailing Rasputin's sequences from when he detected the Darkness. There's a thread piecing it all together somewhere, I'll try to find a link
