Destiny's loot system is more similar to WoW than Borderlands, therefore it makes more sense that people get locked out of earlier content. I KNOW Destiny is not an MMO, but it shares this ONE aspect with a known MMO.

  • You aren't locked out of earlier content in World of Warcraft. Even after 10+ years you can still buy vanilla WoW and play any of the core content up to level 60 (there have been updates to that content but it hasn't been removed). Most online console games will restrict playlists if you don't have the map pack/dlc but Destiny is the first game I've seen remove activities available in the vanilla game upon release of DLC.

  • I can name a few raids/areas that have been removed from WoW. If I'm not mistaken, Burning Crusade content wasn't available for a while and they also removed a few vanilla raids as well. However, tell me what good it would do to access the barred off content when you wouldn't be able to reach the max level for that content to begin with? It's like the heroic dungeon finder. You have to be leveled enough to even queue. So, perhaps that's how I should have explained it to begin with. Since consoles have MUCH less memory to deal with than PCs in terms of adding content, they wouldn't be able to just add 8 new strikes and 5 new raids like a "proper" MMO would have been able to, so cuts have been made and they've been made to those that would not further support the series.

  • Well over 10 years there's going to be changes, the biggest probably being Cataclysm that updated the old world and several quest lines. It may not be exactly the same the point is that you can still level up to 60 and access the same activites, pvp brackets, dungeons, raids (if you have enough people). You are correct in that it wouldn't do much good to access a lvl 41 weekly heroic strike as a lvl 34 which is why it would be better if there were separate playlists or that they just didn't have access to anything from the DLC. That wouldn't be much of a memory issue since it would just be an alternate playlist with different level enemies just like the various strike playlists. That keeps the players engaged and playing, increasing the chance of purchasing the DLC later.
