It happens. It sucks
There's a chance that the process will get unstuck and return it within 24 hours of getting lost
Also check all your characters and vault. Sometimes it gets moved to the wrong place
But if the process doesn't return it or you can't find it then it's gone
Bungie has a policy to not restore lost gear or characters. Whether by user error or bug
The app has a chance to lose stuff. Especially while you're traveling to new planet
