I know how you feel about playing Dark Souls 2 first, but in a way it's a good thing, once you play for a while you'll probably see why people think it was disappointing after Dark Souls 1. Practice parrying, you might need it at the end of the game. You can parry some things you wouldn't think you should be able to, like the mace of the big knight in the Undead Parish, or the giant club of those big dudes at the beginning of Blighttown.
Remember to upgrade your weapons, have a Divine weapon before going into the Catacombs so the skeletons will stay dead even if the necromancers are still alive. And before you get any ideas, THE PENDANT DOES NOTHING. PERIOD.

It's pretty hard to practice when you need the reaction timing of a fly to successfully execute one lmfao. But yeah in a way it was disappointing. That soul memory shit had to go.

You will never need parrying, but it's very useful, it makes Black and Silver Knights a joke. Just practice at the Undead Berg, fight your way through a few times but only use parrying to kill them. I've found that the only enemy I'm worried about parrying is the Balder Knights, but I'm improving on them.
