Why Does Nobody Believe Nice People Exist?
With all the threads about Etheric Peace being "fake" or "just trying to get attention", shut up. He is just a nice guy unlike a lot of you jerks[spoiler]you know who you are[/spoiler]. There are some nice people i have met here like Peace and Therapist, so im not saying everyone here is a dick but there are a lot of people who are. Please follow their example. If you still have the need to be a prick, just quit coming to offtopic. You have no purpose here.

Being nice is overrated. I know how that sounds, but I was the nice guy when I was a kid. I did the etheric peace thing and made everyone's problem my own. When you become a crutch to many people it wears down on you more and more until you snap because you realize how little control you have over other people's perceptions and reactions. You just can't fix everything by being nice. Sometimes you really do have to be an ass to get your pont across or simply for your own sake. Not to say that's how things always are for nice guys. I don't claim to know what anyone goes through by being so consistently helpful or nice. But I did my fair share of talking selfish pricks down from suicide, talking through other people's problems, and generally rolling over like a nice guy is expected to do for strangers. It's something I'll do if the mood strikes, but I'll never be someone's crutch again. So kudos if that's your thing, but don't judge the people that come here to escape reality and have a good time.

2 RepliesBad apple effect at work. It's a handy evolutionary trait built into humans. We've evolved to to focus less on what won't hurt us, and more on the active threat at hand that can. If early man was too pre-occupied enjoying the flowers in the fields around him and taking it easy he might not have noticed the predator stalking him in the fields. So, in modern times today all we see are the shitty people. That's why the news focuses on the negative aspects of the world. In reality, there's probably decent people all over the place. But they're not an active threat or source of woes, and they don't put themselves in the spotlight or on the radar. They do their thing in relative silence. It's hard to acknowledge that decent people exist when you don't see 99% of them.
